Carnival Cruise Lines is a company operating many cruise ships. Originally the company was founded by Ted Arison in 1972. Today, it is a division of Carnival Corporation & plc, which is a public traded company. It is the largest corporation in this industry. Carnival along with other companies: Holland America Line, Cunard Line, Windstar Cruises, Princess Cruises, Yachts of Seabourn and Costa Cruises are together World´s Leading Cruise Lines.
Carnival used to pioneer a new concept: shorter and cheaper vacations. Their ships has a unique Las Vegas style decor and entertainment. They call ships as the Fun Ships with a large number of activities available on board. Their mascot is "Fun Ship Freddy". In 1996, 101,000 tons big ship Carnival Destiny became the world´s largest passenger ship of the world. In 2007, the largest ship of their fleet is Carnival Freedom. It is a Conquest Class Ship and is to be placed in Europe. There are new ships coming: Carnival
Splendor in 2008 During Hurricane Katrina the company received a 6 month charter contract from the government of the USA. Three ships served as a temporary housing for people in need. The Holiday was in Mobile, Alabama. The Sensation and the Ecstasy were in New Orleans in Louisiana.
